Tiki Masks

5th Grade

Students will learn about Tiki Masks. They will create a tiki mask using tempera and sharpie.

Tiki masks are hand-carved wooden masks that that were a part of Ploynesian and Hawaiian culture, in their original intent, were used to protect their users or even increase the mask wearers' luck. They served many purposes, both in the privacy of people's homes and in everyday life.  They thought that the masks would protect the border of their homes. Tiki Masks have been in existence for thousands of years.
